Through his fabulous patchworks, Steli cuts out and reinvents the views of cities past and present which most fascinate him. Combining his talents as a painter and photographer, he likes to play with symmetries and volumes to enliven these mounted puzzles.
Paris, New York, London or Venice are captured during a brief pause in which each detail fits perfectly with the next to offer a panoramic view of the whole. This fantastic journey takes us to street names, shop windows and iconography of famous landmarks, artists and performers, all put together with Steli’s own patiné painting technique.
Born in Bulgaria in 1964, Steli graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Sofia in 1983. He is a member of the Association Internationale des Arts Plastiques, and a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists. Steli has held many solo exhibitions and his paintings can be found in private collections in Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, United States.
