Michael F Rumsby (born 1968 UK) studied art and history of art at the University of Lancaster. His passion for painting was parked as he was at first seduced by the corporate world. His creativity and vision saw him rise to the esteemed position of Global Communication Director for the L’Oreal Group in Paris. This role meant extensive international travel and one can see in Michael’s expressive artwork his love of light and pure colour.
From his main studio in Saussignac, France he produces joyous paintings full of vibrancy and flourish. His bold brushstrokes and marks are energetic and vital. His style pays homage to the Post Impressionists, with echoes of Van Gogh’s swirling stars and Cezanne’s pictorial flatness. The brilliant palette inspired by Fauve era Matisse and Derain. As a painter Michael experiments and plays with abstraction, yet the work retains presentation. His subject matter of floral still lives, sea views from balconies and intimate townscapes reflects his ‘joie de vivre’. It is a world of beauty where the senses are delighted by the fragrance upon a summer breeze. Memories and moment captured in vivid expressions of painterly gestures.
To quote the artists own words. “I’m inspired by everything that’s around me, painting in my head every waking minute of my life. The infinity symbol is in my pieces, representing this concept of something that is unlimited, endless, without bound.”
Michael F Rumsby has been successfully exhibited internationally, and his work can be found in private and corporate collections across the world. He has been a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) since 2014.
This will be his first exhibition with Artcatto with Michael spending time painting in the Algarve, a constant source of inspiration for him.
