The Conrad Algarve and ArtCatto have over the years formed a very special partnership. Through their unique association they have created and collaborated on some incredible and unforgettable events. The Philip Jackson exhibition promises to be no exception.
Philip Jackson is one of Britain’s most celebrated sculptors. He has undertaken numerous high profile commissions, including HM The Queen and HM The Queen Mother. In 2012 Jackson’s Bomber Command Memorial was unveiled by Her Majesty the Queen to critical acclaim.
On the 14th of March 2015 his statue of Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled in Parliament Square; present were Prime Minister David Cameron and other important dignitaries, including Mahatma’s grandson Gopalkrishna Gandhi.
The limited edition maquette of the Mahatma Gandhi statue will be exhibited for the first time at this event.
It is fair to say that Philip Jackson has no equal in terms of commissioned public statues. From royalty, military heroes, politicians to football legends, Jackson has covered them all.
If this wasn’t enough, Jackson has another style of sculptural output, his fine artwork, which perfectly contrasts and balances his representational commissions. These pieces are powerful and dramatic, inspired by Venetian Balls, Masquerades and Carnivals, operatic costumes and ecclesiastical rituals. His female figures are graceful and delicately posed whilst some pieces possess a darker more haunting quality. His work is theatrical and often enigmatic. His sculptures are literally awe-inspiring and over the years Jackson has developed a serious collector base for these sensational pieces.
One of the central figures will be a monumental work entitled, ‘The Don’, dark and mysterious, with a gilded mask and wide arching hat. Who is this figure? What are his intentions?
Philip Jackson lives and works in West Sussex where he divides his time between producing gallery sculpture and public commissions. A number of galleries in America exhibit and sell Jackson’s work and he has pieces in private collections throughout the world.
