Claire Fontana was born in Strasbourg (France) in 1972, at 16 she began her studies in sculpture and painting at the college of Arts Décoratifs, where she stayed for 6 years, working with Patrik Lang, Roger Dale and Franck Wolfahrt. In 1995 she went on to study and specialise in sculpture for a further 3 years at the Beaux Arts academy of Carrara in Italy.
In her sculptures of bronze and glass she catches a cinematographic instant, in which figures are frozen in time, held by a deep strength of movement. Short-lived dives, jumps, rolls and flips seem immortalized in their most intense tension while the hues of the glass reflect and shimmer.
Today Claire Fontana lives and works between France and Italy, her work is in collections and galleries throughout Europe.
