Darryn Eggleton is a South African wildlife artist whose work aims to portray the beauty, diversity and profundity of life. Born in 1981 and raised within the borders of the Kruger National Park, he developed a deep connection to the natural world from an early age — an influence that continues to shape his artistic vision today.
Working primarily in oil on linen, Darryn creates intensely realistic animal portraits that isolate each subject against a single-colour backdrop, drawing the viewer into a powerful and almost cinematic encounter. The only suggestion of environment is often revealed through subtle reflections in the eyes, enhancing the sense of presence and emotional depth.
His paintings are created through meticulous research and field reference, resulting in exceptional detail and authenticity. Darryn has been shortlisted for and won a range of awards, including recognition from the David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year and the Hiram Blauveldt Purchase Award. His work has been exhibited internationally — including in London, Switzerland, Singapore and New York — and is held in private collections worldwide.
