Stallman is the shared vision of artists Hallman and Stum, who combined both their names and their creative paths to form a single moniker: Stallman. From their Pacific Northwest island studio, they have been creating and exhibiting internationally for over a decade.
At the heart of their work is a simple belief: two creative minds, working in true collaboration, can arrive at ideas neither would have reached individually. Each brings their own unique intuition, problem-solving, and way of seeing the world. Together, they transform humble materials—paint and canvas—into sculptural works that defy expectation and invite discovery.
Driven by deep curiosity, Stallman challenges the limits of traditional art materials. Canvas and paint, often seen as flat and fragile, are reimagined into forms full of strength, movement, and complexity. Their evolving body of work, called Canvas on Edge, reflects years of experimentation, trust in process, and the quiet discipline of continuing to ask “What if?”
But the work is only fully alive when the viewer steps in. As you move around the piece, colours shift, shapes reveal themselves, and light plays across the surfaces. Each encounter becomes personal, creating a moment of discovery where the art is never quite the same twice.
